PlayStation Is Preparing Two State of Play Events This Week: Here’s What We Could See

PlayStation has just confirmed a new presentation for this week, and this time it comes with a surprise: Sony will hold two back-to-back events on September 3, 2026.

The first will be a traditional State of Play, with news, announcements, and updates from PlayStation Studios and third-party companies. But when it ends, another event will begin, focused specifically on games developed in Japan and Asia.

And yes, we already have one game confirmed to close the first presentation.

When is the next State of Play?

Sony officially confirmed that the first State of Play will take place on Thursday, September 3.

The broadcast will begin at:

  • 🇲🇽 Mexico: 7:00 a.m.
  • 🇨🇴 Colombia / 🇵🇪 Peru: 8:00 a.m.
  • 🇻🇪 Venezuela: 9:00 a.m.
  • 🇦🇷 Argentina / 🇨🇱 Chile: 10:00 a.m.
  • 🇺🇸 U.S. East Coast: 9:00 a.m.

The event will feature updates from PlayStation Studios and third-party developers, although Sony has not yet revealed the full list of games that will appear. (blog.playstation.com)

That leaves plenty of room for surprises.

Final Fantasy VII will be the big finale

What has been confirmed is that Final Fantasy VII: Revelation will have a special presentation at the end of the State of Play.

Sony is promising an “extended look” at the game, so we can expect quite a bit more than a simple trailer.

This detail also matters because Square Enix already has the final slot of the event reserved. In other words, PlayStation is practically telling us what its big closing announcement will be.

Could we see more of Until Dawn 2?

This is where things get interesting.

Sony specifically says there will be updates from its own studios, but it has not said which games will be present.

That is why titles such as Until Dawn 2 and Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet are among the possibilities that could receive new updates.

Important: neither game has been confirmed for this State of Play.

So for now, it is best to separate expectations from official information.

And there will be a second event

When the main State of Play ends, Sony will immediately continue with State of Play Japan.

This presentation will focus on games from studios in Japan and other Asian countries, and it promises new gameplay, announcements, and updates.

This format could be especially interesting for fans of RPGs, action games, and Japanese titles that often receive less attention in Western presentations.

That said, I would not necessarily expect huge announcements. The last Japanese edition focused more on concrete PlayStation updates than major reveals.

A very important morning for players

What makes this double presentation interesting is that Sony could keep players in front of the screen for several hours.

First we will get general PlayStation updates, then the extended look at Final Fantasy VII: Revelation, and finally a presentation centered on Asian games.

For now, there are more questions than answers.
