Silent Hill: Townfall Takes Psychological Horror Into a New Dimension

Silent Hill has just found a new way to scare us. Silent Hill: Townfall changes one of the series' most recognizable features and embraces a first-person perspective to deliver a horror experience that feels much closer, more uncomfortable, and more personal.

A story far from Silent Hill

The adventure begins in St. Amelia, a small fishing village on a Scottish island during the 1990s. There we meet Simon, a man who arrives after being shipwrecked and is given the task of finding Zoe, a mysterious nurse.

But it quickly becomes clear that the real danger is not limited to the monsters. The story uses psychological horror, symbolism, and a reality that begins to lose its meaning to create an experience where we never know exactly what is happening.

First person to make the fear more intense

The major change in Townfall is its first-person camera. This decision makes exploring the environments far more unsettling, especially when enemies can disappear from your field of view.

In addition, the franchise's traditional radio is replaced by a portable CRTV television that can detect creatures, observe their movements, and uncover clues. Some puzzles even use its frequencies and the PS5 controller's gyroscope.

Exploration also plays a fundamental role. St. Amelia is a small environment, but it is designed like a maze filled with alternate paths, puzzles, and areas that shift between their normal version and a nightmare dimension.

Survival matters more than fighting

Townfall lets players confront monsters or try to avoid them through stealth. Weapons and ammunition are limited, while making too much noise can attract more enemies.

The game also includes different playable characters, five endings, New Game+, and collectibles, giving players more reasons to return.

With an estimated length of around 20 hours, Silent Hill: Townfall aims to refresh the formula without abandoning the psychological horror that defines the franchise.
