GTA 6 might launch without a new GTA Online: here's what we know

With only a few months until the launch of GTA 6, a question is gaining traction among players: what will happen to GTA Online?

Take-Two Interactive continues to primarily discuss the single-player experience of Grand Theft Auto VI, but remains silent on the upcoming version of its successful multiplayer component. And while this does not mean that GTA Online has been delayed, the lack of information is already generating speculation within the community.

Take-Two has not yet revealed plans for GTA Online

According to information shared by Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier, Take-Two is currently focusing its communication on the GTA 6 campaign and does not plan to talk about the future of GTA Online anytime soon.

The situation is striking because GTA 6 is currently scheduled for release on November 19, 2026.

Even so, it is important not to confuse silence with confirmation. Rockstar Games has not announced that the new GTA Online will be delayed, nor has it officially confirmed the existence of an independent version that will be released alongside the game.

GTA Online will continue to receive content

While players await news about the multiplayer future, Take-Two made one important thing clear: the current GTA Online will continue to receive support even after the launch of GTA 6.

Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two, noted that the company maintains significant resources dedicated to the game and that the frequency of its updates remains stable.

This means that GTA Online still has a lot of life ahead, even when GTA 6 arrives on consoles.

Could GTA 6 launch first without its new online mode?

This is where speculation begins.

Rockstar already has a precedent. When GTA V arrived in 2013, the game was initially released with its single-player campaign, while GTA Online appeared approximately two weeks later.

Therefore, it would not be strange for Rockstar to decide to repeat a similar strategy with GTA 6.

There is also the possibility that the new GTA Online will arrive months after the launch, especially considering the enormous scale expected of the upcoming game.

But for now, all of this remains speculation.

Rockstar's strategy could make sense

GTA 6 aims to become one of the most important releases in video game history. Rockstar could be reserving all initial attention to present its campaign, its characters, and the enormous world of Vice City before revealing its plans for multiplayer.

And there might be a reason to maintain the mystery.

After the success that GTA Online has had for more than a decade, expectations for its successor are enormous. Rockstar will not only have to create a new online world: it will have to find a way to convince millions of players to abandon, or at least complement, an experience that still generates enormous revenues.

For now, the only certainty is that GTA 6 will arrive on November 19, 2026. Everything related to the new GTA Online is still under wraps.

And with only a few months until the launch, there is less and less time to discover what Rockstar has in store.
