PHYSINT Moves From PlayStation to Xbox, and Kojima Surprises the Industry

Can you imagine Hideo Kojima's next espionage game, originally presented alongside PlayStation, ending up published by Xbox? That is exactly what has just happened.

PlayStation confirmed that it is stepping away from PHYSINT, the ambitious action-espionage game from Kojima Productions that was introduced in 2024 as something of a spiritual successor to Metal Gear. But the project is not dead: Xbox has stepped in to continue production.

Kojima had to find a new partner

According to Hideo Kojima, PlayStation informed his studio in mid-June that it wanted to cancel the project. Over the following three months, Kojima Productions searched for a new partner until it found one in Xbox, a company that, according to the Japanese creator, shares his vision for the future.

And here is the most interesting part: PHYSINT will continue development, but now under a completely different partnership.

Xbox wants more than PHYSINT

The collaboration will not be limited to the video game. Xbox and Kojima Productions confirmed that they will expand their relationship into film and television, with the goal of bringing new stories from the studio to larger audiences. In addition, both companies are already working together on OD, Kojima's horror-related project.

For Xbox, this represents much more than securing another game. For PlayStation, on the other hand, it means losing a project from one of the industry's most recognized creators.

The curious part is that we still know very little about PHYSINT and there is no confirmed release date. But one thing has already changed: the game everyone associated with PlayStation now has Xbox as its new partner.

¿Crees que PHYSINT terminará convirtiéndose en uno de los grandes movimientos de Xbox?
